( can I really call it a rerun if I never did this before? )
Sephiroth in Subversion.
Fifteen years old and orphaned. Never really knew who his parents were. He is living in an abandoned church and gets by with whatever odd job he can snag.
before living on his own, he was sent to various foster homes and none of them seem to be a good fit for him. He ended up running away from his last home and been in hiding.
Sephiroth runs about the city without a real guardian to reign him in. He isn't a troublemaker as much as trouble just seems to find him.
He goes to a normal school, but most of the time, he's skipping out on classes. He is usually found loitering around alleyways and rooftops when he shouldn't be.
He will bolt at the first sign of authority. Most adults put him on edge and he is harder to coax out of hiding around them.
Selectively mute. This is mostly due to him being finding it hard to bond with others. He only really talks around kids and teens his age.
Carries around a lighter with him everywhere he goes. It barely works, but its his comfort item.
All in all, Sephiroth is just trying to navigate life and keeping himself under the radar.

“ Chrysanthemums symbolize longevity. How fitting these would still bloom at the cusp of winter, then, as the change of seasons begins the cycle of life anew. ” A snip of a stem, a setting aside of sheers, and a slender, unsteady hand meticulously places the blossom within the jade glazed vase laid before him. Unlike the bountiful flora spring and summer presented him with, winter arrangements were much more simplistic in nature as the selection was thinner this time of year, yet they ever remained among his favorite compositions to create. Golden eyes observe carefully through their lashes, body and hand held back as Baizhu takes in his work in progress. The layout is that of a plum blossom branch not yet in bloom, closed buds adorning the barren bough. What little his garden still offers him frames it, for much of it has been claimed by the onset of wintertide. And at the center piece... A bundle of beautiful chrysanthemums, left perfectly intact despite the snowfall. His mouth upturns at its corners, looking satisfied with the harmony inside this design. The process of sprouting, to budding, blooming, and finally at the ultimate end, withering, represented life’s very cycles, and the tentative nature in which humankind seeks to bloom. For a man as sickly as Baizhu, this revolution was far too fleeting, slipped too soon between his fingers, thus his work sought to preserve these stages in their truest form. If only human life, too, could be preserved in this same manner, though that desire was much like a far off dream; not feasible to him in the slightest, no matter how strongly he might vie for it. The simple happiness of those who beheld his work would simply have to do, even if it was not always enough. Unable to keep the dryness of the winter air at bay, he doubles over into a series of coughs, bracing one hand on the table as the other smothers down sound. The fit passes, though not without struggle, and as he catches his breath he sighs, drawing back from the unfinished arrangement to be resumed another time, once he’s rested and in better health.
Baizhu regards the jade glazed vase and its flowers one last time as he feebly rises to his feet, his smile all but absent, a look of hollow pensiveness left in its wake. Yes... If only human life could be preserved in such a way. Yet the question of its possibility merely led to another. ——— How?
#'diz he's supposed to be happier in this au' y- yeah aha. about that!#don't mind this drabble#i wanted to do character development/introspection bc i really. Like the idea of subversion baizhu ok thank u for coming to my ted talk#drabble tbt.#ir event: subversion

oh hey i never posted subversion info for link,
he’s still a hylian, his ears are noticeably pointed
his parents passed on when he was young, and he’s lived kinda alone ever since. He has a few different hideouts around the town.
Almost exclusively communicates through writing. He’ll sign a little bit sometimes, but most of the time he writes
very distrustful towards adults.
He’s got Epona still. He ‘stole’ her from a farm he’ll hide away at sometimes (the owners know he comes by and lets him play with Epona so he’ll feel safe, and she knows how to return home)
always getting into trouble. always.
loves music though! one of the ways to get him at ease is with music.

SUBVERSION INFO.
a preschool teacher’s assistant! he’s fresh out of college, semi-clumsily navigating adult life, and enjoying this career path so far. he hopes to stick with it for the foreseeable future!
has a large and close-knit family with many small children. as part of the elder half of siblings, cousins and what have you, looking after kids just seemed like a natural choice for him. he’s good with them, too!
not particularly skilled in anything else, though. he’s about as average as it gets, and he’s fine with that. really!
but he is remarkably unlucky, albeit in very small and harmless ways. the new pair of shoes he got? probably already stepped in gum while wearing them. running late for work? it’s raining, he missed the bus, AND he forgot his umbrella. (because of course he did.) life seems to have it out for mr. anchors, at least in the manner of really miniscule inconveniences.
has two bearded dragons! a longtime friend of his named them “creepy” and “weepy” — she swears it suits them.
sometimes he brings them in for show and tell. the kids seem to really look forward to this.
in summary, life is good for ashton anchors! it might be mundane to most, but he’s content and he thinks that’s what’s most important.

“If I were to describe a feeling, if I can truly ‘feel’, I would say that it feels like it’s time to bring this city’s prologue to a close.”
The cold wind of the New Year would bite at anyone out as late at night as the girl clad in a cherry blossom kimono. But she wasn’t biological - the cold air registered as nothing more than a reading to be detected by her sensors.
Floating high above the hole as she had during the city’s conception, Ofiuco was dressed festively for the New Year. Celebrations had ended a few days prior, but much like a child, she was quick to cling to things she liked. New outfits were just one of those things.
From the moment she’d awoken all those years ago, she’d been plagued with existential questions regarding her own existence. Her creator had intended her to be as “human” as possible, but just what did that imply? She’d been assured by the others that her time watching over the city would help her find her answers.
With the moon at her back, several screens took form in the air around her. The next step was a certain protocol---a protocol to test the city’s strength of heart and ensure that they would be able to overcome what the future would hold. If they could not weather this test and see the desired result to fruition, then this project was surely doomed.
“Hope” itself would be doomed. But Ofiuco did not understand neither heart nor hope: she could only initiate the test itself. The result would be judged by the others.
Her hands fidgeted after booting up the test. Was she…
Nervous?
That morning began like any other. The chirping of birds stirred many from their slumber. Some showered as they readied for their day while others retired from their overnight shifts. It was like any other day in the ever peaceful city of Spirale.

This place where they’d always lived.
THIS PLACE WHERE THEY WERE BORN.
Subtle changes washed over the city. Those that had come from different worlds? Their memories were rewritten to believe that they’d been born and raised in Spirale. Those that were native to the island? They now believed the visitors could be counted among them. History was adjusted, bonds were created, dynamics were altered. The city would continue on as usual, but what could be considered “normal” had undergone a drastic change.
The sun was rising on a new chapter for the city and not a single individual would even realize what was out of place. The pain and pleasure of their past lives merged into the history of the city, if not erased outright. It was the new beginning that some surely longed for, but never expected to receive.
Reality had been SUBVERTED.
Welcome to the first event of 2019, SUBVERSION! With the first six months behind us and the introductory period for the group coming to a close, we’ll effectively be laying the groundwork for the future of the group!
So... what’s happening?
As of midnight on January 05, 2018, all muses in the group have had their memories altered. They now believe that they have lived in Spirale since birth and will carry on as if that has always been the case. Don’t worry, this is temporary!
You can put as little or as much thought as you’d into building your character’s AU past in Spirale. If you’d like to incorporate events from their canon but change them to fit into their AU history, that’s fine! Likewise, if you’d like to give them a normal life or tweak their backgrounds to make them a little different that’s fine as well.
You can also use this as an opportunity to pre-existing relationships with other characters in the group. Have them know each other, have them be friends, lovers, enemies, it’s up to you!
An important note: From the moment the character’s memories were altered, all of their powers and abilities were also sealed. Given that their memories have been altered, they would also not be aware they have them in any way. You are free to come up with any method you like to maintain any alterations they were maintaining via any powers, however! Many different things exist in Spirale, after all.
You’ll be able to create PT1 starters throughout the entire duration of the event. PT2 is scheduled to go up on January 13th!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will my character retain these AU memories after the event?
Vaguely, yes! Or if you choose to allow them to. However, your character’s original memories will be regained at the end of PT1 and will still function as their primary memories, so you can’t use their AU memories to alter your portrayal long term short of their reaction to these feigned recollections.
Do PT1 and PT2 count as two separate events? What counts as participation?
PT1 and PT2 will count as a single event. Because of the nature of the event story, you’ll require participation in both parts in order for SUBVERSION to count towards any rank ups. Keep in mind that these memories will be important for PT2 and it will be difficult to participate in PT2 if you don’t at least set up your AU for PT1.
How should I set up my ad post?
It’d be best to finalize the details of your character’s AU first and foremost and let people know! What kind of upbringing did they have? What career do they have? What do they spend their free time doing? Anything that might be important for others to know!
What if my character is a non-human?
In cases like these you have the choice to either: make them human for the duration of PT1 or keep them as a non-human. The city will likely treat non-humans more harshly and might make for a more unique background within the AU of this section. Of course, short of minor passive traits their abilities would still be non-existent.
What are the limitations for our AU versions?
There aren’t many. The first is that you cannot recreate any plot points from their canon into their AU that involve powers (since powers are turned off for PT1). The second is that you should make sure not to give them a career or role that wouldn’t exist within the setting. For example, there are no princesses in Spirale since its a modern city. You could, however, make your character an heiress or something of the sort which is similar. Finally, you may not alter the ages of your characters.
Can we create families with other muses?
Yes! But obviously a character that is 26 isn’t going to have a child that’s 18. In cases like these it might be easier to have sibling relationships.

“Hey, watch it--” Though she had been the one to run into him, Zwei laid the blame on him anyway. When she turned and saw who it was, however, her eyes widened in surprise. It had been years, and back then she had half-resented and half-envied him for leaving. Back then in the orphanage when she was better known as “Noise”, for the frequent tantrums she threw when she didn’t get her way.
“You’re...”

It had been a good day, already. It was fun to spend time with Martel, Lailah had found- ever since they’d met at a craft show, the other woman had been good company. It was natural to want to spend a little more time together, she assumed, so of course she was happy to meet up to visit the amusement park.
They’d gone on a ferris wheel together, talking and enjoying the view, when she noticed that they’d stopped moving at the top.
“It would seem that.... we’ve stopped.”
Oh my.

Sephiroth stared at the flames as they engulfed the freshly fallen leaves he piled up on the ground. There was something pretty about how the flames ate away at each one before growing larger and larger in size. His eyes brightened against the color of the flames, lighter in his hand as he thumbed the wheel.
click. click.
The itch didn't disappear, but it didn't grow worse. the flint inside of the lighter wouldn't ignite again. Sephiroth closed the lighter and held it tight inside of his hand. He moved closer to the flames, but stopped when he heard someone approaching. He slowly turned to face the other and tilted his head.
They were short and oddly dressed. He brought his hand holding the lighter close to his chest. His eyes held distrust towards the other. He sized up the other and took in their face, sweeping over every part of it. They looked vaguely like an adult. That was all Sephiroth needed to know as he pointed past them.
go away. the silent plea came.

She was nervous, walking back into the studio on her own. Everyone had been nice enough so far, so her concern wasn’t entirely warranted, but old habits died hard.
She did her best to keep her footsteps light just so she wouldn’t cause too much disturbance, but instead of the designer scribbling away at something, she found him practically sprawled over his table, sleeping soundly.
“Um. Sir? I’m here for my casting...” She hesitated, but eventually she worked up the courage to give him a few pokes in the shoulder. “Hello?... Sir?”

SUBVERSION INFO.
welcome to my liddol g/enshin AU:
he’s still very much chronically ill.
has spent most of his life in and out of hospital care. he’s very well acquainted with many of the doctors in spirale, for his visits are both long and frequent.
a general weak physical constitution means he hasn’t quite lived what most would consider a normal life, though he does find fulfillment in the arts — particularly that of traditional chinese flower arranging.
when in good health, he participates in flower expos held within the city, displaying and selling his work. his craft has garnered him relative fame within florist and botany related communities, and those who know of him hold him in high regard.
probably lacks any close friends. still, people recall baizhu for his kindness. (and others, his cleverness, or even mischievousness. depends on who you ask.)
has an albino, non-talking garden snake named changsheng. when he’s away, neighbors look after her.
overall a friendly, if not somewhat melancholy man who could use some companionship. (pls be his fr-)

Despite everything that’d happened, Emil still did his best to keep things at least... somewhat normal for himself at school. He didn’t really like the spotlight, kept out of it whenever he could- but there was a limit to what could be done when your uncle decided at random to pick you up after school in his car.
“H-Hi, uncle Regal.... what are you doing here...?”

Bespeaking genuine discontent, a visible frown adorns feminine lips. ❝ You haven't seen a book bag anywhere nearby, have you? The store my mom bought it from here when I was twelve stopped making them. ❞ Although bestrewn with polychromatic gems, the aforementioned object isn't costly. It possesses sentimental value....and just so happens to contain several homework assignments.

{🍀} “Hey.... wait a minute, aren’t you a ballerina? I’ve seen you before, you were incredible!” Clover had always loved ballet- while she’d never had the coordination for it, she’d always admired those who did. “What would you like? It’ll be on the house- I’d love to hear more about what it’s like to dance like that.”
She was ever the chatty-type, but she figured it was fitting for a cafe owner. She just liked to get to know her customers- it was part of the atmosphere.

The information gathering stage was complete.
A week had passed since the operation had begun and reality itself had conformed to the guidelines laid out by the Program.
Ofiuco had studied as she had been instructed. Eventually it came time for her to give her report, speaking to a superior beyond a screen that read ‘SOUND ONLY’.
So... What’d you notice?
Replacing the memories of the outsiders has led to a more peaceful city. It is like an entirely different place. The people as well… are not the same.
Oh! Is there anything bad about how the city is now?
Inherently, no. The city is quiet, and those that were denied peaceful lives in their own worlds are able to live those dreams. In a way it is a utopia for many more now than it was before.
Oooh... In that case--
But.
...but?
There was nothing wrong with the city the way it was before. Its current state is artificial. The residents before had suffered, but for many of them that made the happiness they found themselves far more precious.
Eheh, that’s a really interesting take, Uco-chan! Is it based on data analysis?
There… is no data to back this up. How I came to these conclusions… I do not quite understand myself.
No data...? Okay! Then we’ll leave the rest in your capable hands, Uco-chan! I hope you find the answer you’re looking for.
With that, there was silence. The screen that hovered in front of her turned black for a single moment before chains of code began to run across it.
It wasn’t simply code to an artificial being as herself: it was a language meant to describe what would happen next. She stood quietly for a moment, the letters and numbers reflecting off her lens-like eyes.
“This is… too cruel…”
At the stroke of midnight, an unprecedented event fell upon Isola Radiale.
Around the outskirts of the city, the fog that had kept the citizens trapped began to withdraw. In tandem with this strange event, a loud alarm rang throughout the city that stirred those that were slumbering to their senses.
All at once, the populace was afflicted with the same head-splitting malady. Lives they’d thought real were suddenly thrown into a maelstrom of confusion as memories of another world and another Spirale flashed and emblazoned themselves back in their minds and fell into place. For all they knew, in those hellish moments, it felt as if the fabric of their beings were being torn apart.
And then, there was darkness.
The next morning, at exactly 6 a.m., every phone in Spirale chimed with the same ear-splitting alarm that could rouse even the dead from the grave. When they lifted their phones to silence the noise, the devices automatically dialed to their voicemail box with a message lying in wait, though no new calls had been logged.
A voice, clearly disguised to sound deeper, spoke to them.
“You need to act before it is too late. Alternate versions of yourselves, those that believed they had lived in this city their entire lives, have been split off from you outsiders and have fled. I understand this may sound unbelievable, but I have made sure you still have vague recollection of their lives.
“Your ‘copy,’ a being believing themselves to be the original, has been infected by a virus created to kill them. Over time, their stability will deteriorate, and before long they will perish by causes that appear natural. However. you are intrinsically linked to this copy. If they die, so will you. The only way to counteract this effect and nullify the virus is to seal them away in a parallel space I have created. There they will be able to live their lives as intended, free of the harm of these tests. This is a mercy that... would not normally be permitted. I am acting against protocol, and therefore it is possible my actions might be undone.
“On your cellphone, you will find an app titled ‘Spirale GO.’ Simply tapping your copy with your phone while this app is running will send them to this space, but only on the condition that the copy agrees or is otherwise worn out. Considering they are quickly losing their sense of reason, I imagine that might be quite difficult.
“To make matters slightly more complicated... areas directly outside of the city have opened up and many of the copies have fled to these areas. Your phones have been updated with information relevant to these spaces and will indicate which area your copy has fled to. I can provide no more assistance than this.
“So that they might live a happy life, and so that you may preserve whatever happiness you have acquired yourself... I pray you persevere.”
So what is happening now?
The AU versions of each character have split off from their original and have been infected with a virus intended to impair their reasoning ability and then kill them. The issue? If your copy dies, you die.
A ‘mysterious voice’ has offered you an illegal out: utilizing an app on your phone to seal them away in a parallel realm where they can live happily. To do this, you must get them to agree or subdue them in their deteriorating state.
Additionally, the island has opened up a bit and there are new locations to visit! Please check out the BRANCHES page!
Each phone has been set up with an app that allows you to know where in the city (or outside of it) that their copy is located, however they won’t know the exact location within.
Explore the new areas, hunt down your copy, and seal them away!
Part II of the event will last until midnight on 1/20, so make sure you at least get a starter in before then!
Frequently Asked Questions
I didn’t have time to make a starter during Part I. Can I participate in Part II?
Yes, kind of! As explained in the Part I post, you may still make Part I starters during Part II of the event!
Can you explain how to seal doubles?
Sure! Doubles can be sealed by two means: getting the double to agree to be sealed away willingly OR subduing them and forcing them to be sealed---in other words, knocking them the heck out some type of way. Given that the doubles are slowly becoming more confused, disoriented and agitated, the former method will become more difficult as time goes on, so it would be wise to find them quickly!
Once you get them to agree or knock them out, tap the SEAL button in your SGO app on your phone to send them to the Other Side. Simple, no?
Oh, but be careful. If you accidentally kill your double, you’ll kinda accidentally play yourself and also die. Whoops.
I accidentally played myself. What happens to me and my double?
You better watch out. : )
You’ll find out at the end of the event.
Do we have to deal with our double on our own?
No! You are able (and encouraged) to phone a friend (or several) and go on a double hunt! Feel free to team up to corral them to your heart’s content. The only deal is that only the original can seal their copy (e.g. Original Flavor!Ofiuco is the only one who can seal Copy!Ofiuco).
Will this event have rewards?
All we know is our guts say maybe.
These new areas are (super) cool, but I don’t know if I want to use them in Part II. Do I really have to?
No! Your double is also free to hide somewhere within the city limits if you so choose. But don’t you want to explore the Branches? They’re all shiny and new and have that new Branch smell.
Can I write a drabble for my event participation?
We would really prefer if members interact with each other during the event, but if you’re dead set on a drabble, it will need to be at least 500+ words in order to qualify for event participation. That’s per part, by the way.
And that’s all! As always, if you have any questions not covered here, please feel free to reach out and ask. Have fun!

“I’m going to find my copy. Have you found yours?”
Echo had persuaded her double to leave quietly. Of course she had. Noise couldn’t picture Echo getting into an argument with herself. It would be harder to persuade her own duplicate, however. The Noise of this fake world wouldn’t listen to reason. If that said something about herself, Noise was ignoring the revelation.
Like Echo, Noise didn’t think Mariko would have any trouble persuading her double to leave peacefully. But in case she was too kind to seal her copy away, Noise was prepared to do it for her.
